The Bay of Islands

Our Christmas was spent in the lovely Bay of Islands. It's about 3 hours drive north of Auckland and absolutely beautiful. I got two tents from school and we also managed to procure a couple of kayaks. Score!

We were based in Kerikeri but also visited Paihia, Waitangi (where the treaty between the British and the Maori was signed), 90 mile beach, Cape Reinga (which is a further 3 hours north and is the northern tip of NZ) and we also did a cruise round the islands where we were able to jump into the ocean and swim with dolphins.

Here's Iain and I in the Waitangi Grounds with the Pacific Ocean behind us...
And this plaque sits below the flag pole:And these are some shots from our sailing trip round the bay and our attempts at swimming with dolphins...

These are from the 90 mile beach road trip which took us all the way up to Cape Reinga. Amazing. The Big Rig was loving the off-roading! And finally at Cape Reinga. The waves are where the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea meet.

Aye, quite far from Glasgow!
