As I'm writing this after-the-event, and I want to try and capture my utter delight at my accomplishment, here is a direct quote from my Facebook post from this day:
Exactly two months ago today, feeling guilty and sluggish from all the crisps, cheese and wine I’d been consuming under lockdown, I went for a run. I’ve never enjoyed running but knew I need to do something for both my physical and mental health. That first day I did a very slow 2.1k and it was horrible. I’ve plugged away ever since, gradually upping the Ks and today I ran my first EVER 10k in my whole life. I might be slow, but a slow 10k is better than a fast 0k. I’m amped!
I’ve kept a bottle of champagne in the fridge for this. I’m drinking the lot tonight!
I bloody well did it. And I knew I was going to, too. I actually went to bed on the Wednesday night thinking, tomorrow, I'm going to run a 10k. I was feeling good and I just went out and did it. By the end, my toe issue was getting a bit niggly again and of course that hill at the funicular was horrible, but so what? I still ran 10k. Its really given me the confidence to keep going and I see what I can achieve next. Oh, how far I've come.
Lorna :)
