Is three times a habit? If it is, I seem to have developed myself a really nice wee habit. With William and Iain off to tennis first thing on a Saturday morning, I make myself some tea and toast, head back to bed, get Dermott on the radio and fire up the Blog. It really is a lovely way to slide into the weekend. This morning is slightly different though as I ate so much chocolate yesterday that I'm being disciplined with my fasting this morning so just back to the black coffee. It's still a joyful start to the day.
So, how's our week been?
Last Saturday, I was still not 100% from my gastro. My appetite wasn't quite back and I was still tired, but I was getting there. The boys came home from tennis, William played lots of Lego and we had a slow morning with me catching up on my blog and Iain relaxing. After lunch, I finally got William out of the door for a few hours. The sun is so low in the sky at this time of year that our house feels like it's in constant darkness. It's amazing how different the world looks as soon as we step out of the courtyard! William and I spent a good couple of hours in Parc Beaumont, playing at the rock pools and then heading up to the playground for a wee while. It was glorious. On the way back through town, we finally used up his ticket for the carousel and I even indulged him (and me) in a hot chocolate. We got them from the chocolatier on our street and they were possibly the best hot chocolates I've ever had. Big call.

On Sunday morning, Iain made a great picnic (including some of the leftover pizza from the night before!) and we got out of town and up to Domaine du Sers. Again, getting out into the sunshine was so good for the soul and we spent a good couple of hours up there, eating food, drinking tea and coffee (the joy of two flasks!), playing basketball and just enjoying the fresh air.
This week has really consisted of boring-but-necessary ducks-in-a-row jobs and personal admin, and I kicked it all off on Sunday by reconfiguring William's car seat. Turns out, it should've been done 5kgs ago. Eeek! The rest of the week has seen me tick off a variety of jobs including chasing money from the judo club, submitting forms to CAF and our Health Insurance, getting documents certified and sending them to Scotland, industriously attacking this blog and my food blog, and sorting out of a variety of tradies for various parts of the house. Like I said, boring but necessary.

It's been absolutely freezing again this week. It's definitely the most prolonged period of particularly cold weather that I can remember since we have lived here. Iain and I are continuing our weekly routine of gym/walk/gym etc but my head and heart's not really been in the game this week. Our walk on Tuesday morning was absolutely baltic! However, my back is definitely way better than it was when we were in Scotland so that's a positive. It was actually the one year anniversary of my surgery this week. What a quick year. And what an improvement. We took William swimming on Wednesday afternoon and he loved it. We're desperately trying to get him back into lessons, especially now that the school have had to cancel them again due to covid restrictions. The government look to be relaxing things again so hopefully they'll resume in the next week or so.
With our current financial situation, we're getting less takeaways and eating out less. But, last night, we went out for dinner for the first time this year. A great call by Iain: sushi. William loves it, and You Sushi opens at 6pm which is simply perfect for families with kids. The absolute win at You Sushi is that the have an allergen menu! Hooray! I had the calamari salad and sea bream poke bowl. They were awesome. William smashed 14 California rolls and Iain ended up having two dinners. It was really great and we were home by 8pm with William and me getting stuck into some Daim Cake that I had in the freezer from our last trip to Ikea. What a time to be alive!

In other news, Iain has found himself in a rather interesting situation involving three sports tech companies. Although no one has offered him an actual contract yet, there's quite a bit of movement, phone calls and discussions at play. Who knows where this is going to take us but we're half jokingly talking about Munich, Chicago, Dublin or here. Watch this space.
Lorna.
