Welcome to the USA!

God, I hardly even know where to start. Exactly one week ago we were still staying in our AirBnB in Rue Serviez and trying to tie up all the final loose ends in Pau. Fast forward seven days and William and I have managed to take three flights (we nearly missed our connection in Paris!) to Fort Myers and start our new lives here in Florida.

Things are taking a lot of getting used to. I managed to make some notes at the start of the week but everything has been such a blur, I can't believe that I've been here for a whole week already. It honestly feels like three days....

Tuesday 25 April

Iain took day off work. Managed to sleep until 6.30!

Breakfast and coffees in the room and William was in the pool by 8.30am. I was in not long after.

Morning discovery: drive around and visited Target then managed to get into our community for a look around.

Lunchtime: went to Iain’s work and met Corby & Amanda and had lunch (food was amazing!)

Afternoon: played some baseball then went for an investigation around some other shops before heading back to the hotel. I drove the car!

Got dinner at an Aussie themed restaurant called Outback. Portions are huge! gf is so easy compared to France.

Wed 27 April

Bit of a slower start. Iain went to work and William and I farted around in the morning then went down to the pool. We were in there until about 11am!

Lunch was leftovers in the room and some salad that iain had bought me but William didn’t want his leftovers. Went across to the Bell Tower shopping mall and William got sushi from The Fresh Market. It’s no cheap here!

Iain came home from work around 1.30pm and we spent the afternoon at Lakes Park - it was awesome as we hired these funny pedal powered car things. William loved it. Had dinner at the pub in the hotel. Standard bar food. Good though.

Thurs 28 April

Honeymoon is over! I drove on my own today. Went to the vaccination centre to sort out William’s certification. Have made an appointment for tomorrow morning to get the extra shots that he needs. Wee drive into downtown. Found an amazing playground then had lunch and a wander. Afternoon: drove back south and ventured into Walmart. It was okay! Got William new Birkies and some hair products. Came back to hotel and had a short swim then we all went to a brewery place to meet some of Iain’s colleagues for beers and food truck dinner.

And so that's where we are. On Friday, I took William to get his vaccines then we went straight to the education offices to try to enrol him. Amazingly, we managed to get it all done and by the afternoon, the school were on the phone, arranging for me to go in. I could go tomorrow but its all too rushed as we're only due to get our keys in the morning. He'll start on Tuesday instead.

Again, the weekend has been a blur of visiting shops and trying to work out where to buy affordable furniture. At this rate, there's going to be a lot of online shopping and Ikea deliveries. We get our keys tomorrow and I can't wait to start feeling like we have a base again. I know its not been long this time (the lag between NZ and France was really long) but in my old age my impatience is growing thin and I'm desperate to feel settled.

Here's to the week ahead....
