Guy's waxing his surfboard at the beach

Iain's been longing to don a west-suit and get himself onto a board for ages so where better to try it than world famous Raglan? And of course, I was able to put those hours of practice in Tiree to good use. Turns out you never forget it. But that's only if you've ever had it and to be honest, I don't think I ever did. So I joined Iain on the beginner's lesson...
Land training at The Shed. Who's got the best pop-up?
After some practice on land we headed down to Ngarunui Beach for some final (yet brief!) pointers before we headed into the water.
The currents on the west coast are notoriously unpredictable and the conditions on the day we went out were mental - really messy, inconsistent waves making it hard for us mere novices to catch anything. The instructors were continually moving us up and down the beach as the rips changed and dragged us in different directions. Although we had a bit of success I think we're in agreement that the best is yet to come. It's was great to get out in the ocean again though.

I'll be Jonny Utah and you can be Bodhi?

 Good times. LM.
