There's a nice feeling in the air. I can't put my finger on it, but I'm definitely feeling more positive about things in the last couple of weeks. When I was teaching, I always loved this time of year: getting to the end of courses; Easter/Spring holidays on the way; exam leave looming; and finally, possibly some outdoor teaching on the cards. Even now that I'm not working, I still love it. The days are getting that bit longer and we're casting off winter like a musty old cloak. In its most basic form, it means I'm now actually able to hang washing outside again as the days are just that bit warmer, plus the sun is creeping high enough into the sky that it's starting to shine in the courtyard again. The sun always boosts my mood so I've (re)embarked on rehoming a lot of William's baby things. We gave his cot to Hannah and Martin last week and one of the playgroup mums came round and took some things off me. Its a very cathartic experience. Both in letting go of the past, and also just making some space in our house again. It's incredible how quickly toys and kids' hardware can build up!
My health and recovery are very much at the forefront of everything I'm doing just now. Although I'm walking every day, I am still mindful of doing too much. I saw the surgeon last week who cleared me for physio which I began yesterday. Geoffrey seemed happy enough with where I'm at so we start the rehab programme in earnest next week. I've got a scan on Friday and see the anaesthetist on Friday, then the other surgeon the following Friday, and hopefully that will be that. I can't wait to have finished all the antibiotics. They've sent my system all over the show and I just want to be back to normal. Only a week and a half to go.
As I'm getting my mojo back, there's been some good cooking going on too. This has a wee bit to do with Iain leaving the freezer door open whilst I was in hospital and icing up the entire freezer (again). The whole thing is, once more, needing defrosting so I've been delving into all sorts of strange and wonderful bags and packets to try and run everything down. The King Arthur style chicken pie was, by any standards, an utter triumph.
We've also spent a couple of days up at Jess & Olivier's place. William and I were up for a playdate last Wednesday which was just glorious as we spent all afternoon outside and William and Arts were even playing at water fights. But I did manage to get my car stuck and needed pulled out of the mud by Jess' neighbour. And on Saturday, Iain went up early doors to help Olivier build a fence. We went up for lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon just floating about, playing and helping (a little!).
My spring cleaning hasn't just been about the physical jobs around the house. Last week I spent some time doing reading and talking to people about what's going on in the education world. With William doing more and more hours at school, I really need to get my brain engaged again so I'm starting to pursue paths that might lead to more education or employment. As Iain remarked, "It's like a fire's been lit under you, and it's good". I also got William into the lab for more allergy bloods. The girl that did it was quite young and she couldn't find a vein so was prodding around for ages. The poor wee guy was rightly upset. Fortunately an old dear took over and it was quickly wrapped up. Hopefully, we'll hear back from the specialist soon. This week has also proved rather industrious as I applied for both our Cartes de Sejour and the CAF (still need to post it, mind), and I'm taking William to get his tetanus booster tomorrow (two month late!). We did a lunchtime shop at Monorpix yesterday and got the Coxitis round to school. William was loving it!
