End of the Top 14 Season

This has very much been a jobs week with me yet again trying to sort out my driving licence situation. I'm actually looking at having to take the french driving test. In the meantime, I've applied for an extension to my NZ licence to give me a few extra months of driving (semi) legally. It's been the most complicated process I've ever been through.

In slightly connected news, I managed to get the C3 serviced (what a win!) and I've been looking at getting a tow bar fitted to it. The bike carrier we have is absolutely rubbish. It's complicated to install and it actually feels a bit dangerous. I'm not even entirely sure it even fits out car. So it seems a platform carrier on a tow bar is the way forward but it's just working out who can fit one, if the C3 could actually take our three bikes and how much all this is going to cost. I'm out of my comfort zone here and by throwing the language barrier into the mix, this feels like a huge thing to take on.

I'm continuing with my two physio sessions every week, and things are ticking along nicely. I'm also sticking to the fasting and my weight is slowly but surely going in the right direction. I do have a few other health things that I need to sort out (dermatologist, gastroenterologist, William's PAI for next year) but even just plucking up the courage to call someone and make the appointment can feel like a huge project. Never again will I take for granted, the ability to just make a phone call and easily discuss something.

To say that this was a stressful end to the season would be an understatement. In fact, to say this was a stressful season wouldn't even begin to describe the absolute madness that has happened in the team this year. The highlight (low point?) was possibly the mutiny by the players just before Christmas, where they sacked the head coaches and Fish ended up having to cancel his trip to NZ as the Club needed someone to help steady the ship. It's safe to say that Iain hasn't been enjoying this chaos. The last weekend of the season was the perfect culmination of the madness that's gone on all year. Section needed to win, with bonus point, but needed Bayonne to lose to Stade without even managing a losing bonus point. Talk about the narrowest of margins.

Trying to follow all of this on French tv was somewhat complicated too, with the round-the-grounds show actually having all seven matches on the same screen at some points! The great news is that the boys managed to pull off their side of the result needed, and things went their way in Bayonne. The photos tell the full story of the night.

The end of the season involved all the usual events that I've come to realise that the Section staff and by extension, the partners, only find out about at the last minute. And that the partners rock up and need to lift prams into the most inaccessible spaces in the stadium. Pure amateur hour. Anyway, it was a chance to dress up a wee bit (even if it wasn't your typical end-of-seasons dinner/awards night 😞) but the season is finally done and Iain is breathing the biggest sigh of relief. Time for some holidays.
