This was a funny week. Iain got back from Scotland late on Sunday night and, spurred on by his adventure and the encouragement of what felt like everyone around me, I booked very last minute flights to London to visit Legs and left first thing on Friday. It meant that we had a very quick week together as a family.
Iain and I completed our usual rounds of gym and walking with special mention to me benching a PB of 30kgs (!) and us both getting absolutely drenched whilst doing the red bridge loop on Thursday morning. It always feels good to get out, but doing it when the rain is bucketing down adds that little extra smugness. Iain is getting busier and busier with his study and spending more and more time talking to S&C and High Performance specialists all over the world. It’s great to see him so invigorated by it all.
As Iain goes through somewhat of a rebirth, I, in contrast have been feeling increasingly flat and in need of my own epiphany and resurrection. I also know that you can’t sit around and expect things to happen to you - you need to get out there and make them happen. So, I’m trying hard at being more proactive, and positive, and looking for new experiences to broaden my very simple week. This is why (even though I had a mountain of french homework to do) I accepted an offer from Claire Whitelock to go to Nay market on Tuesday morning. This was going to involve getting the train to Nay and cycling back later that afternoon. It's a decent outing and I was looking forward to it.
I met Claire and Laura at the train station at 9.45 and we did the single stop to Nay. After a wee cycle through the town, we landed upon the market and I was absolutely stunned. For such a small town, the market was massive! We wandered around, taking in the the sights, sounds and smells, eating amazing Indian food, and getting some positively average coffee from an over enthusiastic old rugby fan. Before we knew it, we were in the saddle and embarking on our 22k cycle back to Pau. It was just a really great day out (and a bit of a bump back to earth when I had to get home, do homework, then have a french lesson).
William's continuing his Wednesday afternoon swimming lessons and he's really coming on.
As the weekend drew nearer, I spent my time getting organised for my last minute trip to the Big Smoke. Hair, eyebrows, capsule wardrobe. Done. I was ready to go.
