Can't Get Ahead

William went back to school on Monday morning and it allowed us to come up for air, and look at getting back to our normal routine and getting the house back into order. Well, that was the plan.

When we went down to the laundry on Monday morning, the boiler was leaking water all over the floor. So much, that I had to put a bucket under it. Sebastian, the heating engineer, had only serviced it at the end of January so I sent him a message straight away to explain the problem. (He was actually meant to have come back in February to fix the leaking radiators but hadn't showed up for the RDV, and hadn't messaged me back when I asked him to rearrange. Yes, alarm bells should've been ringing at this point) By 11am, I'd heard nothing so called him. Amazingly, he came out at lunchtime. Said the water pump needed replaced. He went to get a new one and came back later in the afternoon and fixed it. He also fixed the leaks on the two radiators that he was meant to fix in February. Hurrah!

On Monday night, I noticed that the radiator in our walk in wardrobe wasn't heating up. At all. Stone cold. On Tuesday morning, we noticed that there was still a drip coming from the boiler. I messaged him and sent him photos. He called later in the morning. His English isn't brilliant so he said that he would message me. He said he would come out at 3pm. He did. He stuck heaps of silicon on the boiler and seemed very confused about the radiator. He even asked if it worked properly before. Eeek! I heard lots of banging and he was up and down the stairs like a jack-in-the-box, and finally, he said it was fixed. Okay.

On Wednesday we got up to find that there was still a drip from the boiler, the radiator in the wardrobe wouldn't heat up and now the bathroom radiator was leaking. 😩

We're actually asking if this guy is actually a plumber, or if I accidentally called an electrician?!?!? I sent him yet another message on Wednesday morning and now, unsurprisingly really, he's ghosted me. Aaargh. I've not paid him, but don't know what to do now. He's caused the problems, so should fix them, but I don't know if I actually trust him to do the work. What a shambles.

In other news from our week, we made pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and William went back to swimming on Wednesday. It was like something from We Are The Champions! Him and Iain are at tennis this morning while I write this (and listen to Dermott, and drink coffee in bed). They've had to go by bike as the Braderie is on so they can't get the car out. Access to the courtyard has been very restricted this week with all the building work and its already starting to annoy me. Doesn't bode well, given that this is going to continue for months

To address the amount of food and booze we had in Andorra (and my mental health due to house issues!) we have gotten right back into the fitness programme this week. With three gym sessions and two big walks under our belts, its been a good return. I've done lots of rehab (niggly back after all the driving) and our walk on Thursday saw us exploring new routes through Bizanos and over the river in the beautiful spring sunshine.

The plan for this weekend: spring cleaning.
