I feel like, for the first time in months, I'm actually getting things ticked off my to-do list. Last week, while Iain was in Ireland, I plugged away at heaps of retrospective posts on this blog, and this week, I've made quite significant alterations to my food and travel blog. I'm trying to make that one a bit more professional looking, and really trying to get it up-to-date. I don't really know what my end goal is with it but I'm just trying to create something to direct people to around the food I make, and provide good recommendations for travel. I can't really see how it could be monetised, but that would be the ultimate situation. In the meantime, I'll keep plugging away with my writing and my content.
So what have we all been up to for the past week? I collected Iain from Biarritz on Thursday lunchtime (flight was slightly delayed) and we were back in Pau for school pick ups. We had home made KFC for dinner and it was great.
After such lovely weather this week, I was desperate to get myself back in the pool so that's exactly what I did on Friday morning. 2100m, coupled with a big detour on the bike due to the Grand Prix starting, I was gubbed by the time I got home at about 11am. It felt brilliant though.
After school on Friday, we had a bit of a wander along the boulevard to see what was happening with the racing and agreed that we would go on Saturday. That was us locked in. William had tennis on Saturday morning and while Iain and him were away, I managed a good and long overdue catch up with Karen Laidlaw. Can't believe it's been five years since I last saw her. The boys came home and Iain had already managed to pick up tickets so all we needed to do was have lunch and head down to the action.
It was a really great day out. Once we had the passes for the paddocks, we were free to roam all over, sit in any stand we wanted, and visit all the various vintage car displays. I reckon the proper Grand Prix wouldn't be as much fun as this one. The cars are all just so cool. Special mention must go to the Minis and the red one which we watched racing. She was so aggressive on the corners and William was squealing with excitement as she had smoke coming from her wheels as she screeched round the bends. The crowds were rightly cheering the loudest for her. William just had the best day out. He loved everything about it and a couple of times he just stood motionless, staring, absolutely enchanted by his surroundings. What an experience.
By necessity, Sunday was a much quieter affair. We spent quite a bit of the afternoon in the château park playing frisbee (William has conquered it - hurrah!), had a couple of cokes at the Galway and I broke into the baking cupboard in an attempt to try and use things up. It's actually ridiculous how much food we have in the house, just sitting there. So it was scones and macaroons for afternoon tea.
