Another week has passed, and I still haven’t heard anything from Edinburgh Uni. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, it has meant that we’ve not faced a difficult decision about a move to Edinburgh before Iain’s gone through his process at Red Bull, but on the other hand, it’s also becoming more and more likely that they’ve offered the job to someone else, and there’s always a sense of failure if you don’t get offered a job after an interview. Iain is slap bang in the middle of his three day interview marathon with the Austrians so our lives are still very much on hold as we wait, and we wonder. Perhaps I’ll have some sort of news next week.
In the meantime, we're still smashing the gym three times a week and I’ve been working away at all my home chores. I’m just good at keeping busy. As ever, there’s been various health appointments for both of us. Old age doesn’t come on its own ;-) On Tuesday, Iain had an x-ray on his knee and I had my annual review with the gastro specialist at the hospital. She hadn’t given me a script for bloods before the appointment so didn't have much to go on and I had to get them done on Wednesday. Talk about extensive! Perhaps the biggest set of bloods I’ve ever had done! I’d also mentioned to her that I’m getting a lot of wrist and ankle pain so she gave me a referral letter to see a rheumatologist. Amazingly, I managed to get an appointment with one on Friday morning. He’s ruled out any signs of arthritis (thank God) but he wants to keep an eye on things so I’ve got a few things to do before seeing him again in September.
Other chores attended to include:
- Sorting William’s guardarie inscription for next year
- Sorting the new MACIF amount
- Following up health insurance claim
French admin is hard, but admin in french is even harder.
I also managed to get quite a few posts up on my food blog. It’s coming together well and I think I’ll soon be at a point where I’m willing to pay for a proper domain name.
The weekend rolled round and we ended up having a very busy time of it. As we’d not celebrated Father’s Day last weekend, believing it was this weekend, we definitely shoehorned in the theme of celebrating Iain’s Dad-ing. It was the Fête des Ecoles on Friday evening with all the class performances taking place on a wee stage that had been set up in front of Maison Daran. William was really excited about it all and it was brilliant to see him up on stage with his classmates. After the kids performed, Odel and Tim did a set, then Jess had her decks out. Lots of parents hung around, and many of them (including us ;-) ) had a few cheeky wines in the beautiful evening sun. It was a great night.
Sunday was our official Father’s Day. We kicked things off with presents in bed then a full fry up. In between going to the State d’eau vives to see a rubber duck race at lunchtime (we missed the race, and didn’t win anything anyway); taking William 10-Pin-Bowling for the first time (I scored 110! and Iain’s knee rendered him hopeless); and me making a magnificent lime cheesecake to round off the father’s day weekend celebrations, the day was also interspersed with Paul McCartney’s epic set from Glastonbury. 80 and headlining Glasto? What a guy.
Who knows what chat I'll be giving you next week?!?!?
Lorna.
