As I sit down to write this, there's just over an hour until William finishes school. For the year. It's crazy to think that he's now got CP under his belt. AKA Primary 2. Done. I made up my usual bag of tricks for him to give to Maîtresse this morning: some homemade tablet wrapped in some tartan ribbon, and a gin and tonic to wash it down. He's really enjoyed being in her class this year (think he thrives on her orderliness - I wonder where he gets that from?!) and we've also appreciated all the extra reading lessons so I wanted her to know just how much we've thought of her hard work.
With one eye on the school holidays and less opportunities to get to the gym etc, Iain and I have been training the house down with cycling, swimming and lifting. I was disappointed not to get under my target of ‹70kgs but I have managed a bench PB of 32.5kgs and I'm generally feeling strong and healthy. Be interesting to see how we maintain things through the summer...
William's organised sport is also done for the summer. He's absolutely loved both the tennis and the swimming and it's likely that he will continue them next year. He was given a medal at tennis on Saturday morning and was so proud that he wore it all day.
He'd also received his end of year school report on Friday. We're so proud of him. He's hitting (mostly) all the attainment targets for his age, yet he's doing them in a second language. To celebrate, we had goûter and a couple of drinks in town after school.
You might notice my denim jacket in the above photo? It's identical to the one I had a uni and only gave away to charity about 8 years ago. (I'm still kicking myself about this.) Anyway, I managed to source one on Vinted and got the girl down to only €25 so I took the plunge. It's a deal, it's a steal, it's the sale of the century! I absolutely love it.
There's been some decent food experiments this week and Iain is getting William more and more involved in the kitchen. In the photo below, he's making a caprese salad. Watch those fingers, wee man! I made potato scones and they were way better than the last time. It seems the secret is lots of salt and a dry fry first.
With the weather heating up again last weekend, we had grand plans to enjoy the Whitelock's pool as much as possible, as well as cutting their grass etc for them coming home. Our plans were very much thwarted, however, when we turned up to a lime green pool. Eeek. We cut the grass and stuff but that was about it. On Sunday, the gardening theme continued as I spent the day cutting back the jasmine and giving our place a general (much needed) tidy up.
It has been business as usual this week with a couple of differences. Jess is now on summer holidays so invited all the Marca gang up to her place on Monday afternoon for a play and a goûter. This also provided Odel with the perfect opportunity to photograph her Women of Jerusalem for her art project. It was absolutely hilarious. Leesa mentioned that she was heading to Spain on Tuesday on a booze run and invited me along. Although we're in the process of trying to run everything down, I went anyway, "for the banter"! We just went up to the Col de Portalet and had lunch in Bielle but it was a great day out and I still came home with a few treats. ;-)
My final word, and most important, is that there is no job movement from either of us. Iain felt his interviews with Red Bull went well, but you just never know. They said that he would hear from them around the middle to end of this week. Hopefully he'll know by tomorrow. In the meantime, it's been radio silence from Moray House. What are they playing at?! The thing is, I don't want to chivvy them along until we know what's happening with Iain. With William finishing school today, Boris Johnson quitting this afternoon (hurrah!) and these job timeframes getting tighter, this is shaping up to be one helluva week. Watch this space.
Lorna.
