It's 11.30pm and I'm desperately trying to get a post in the bag before we leave for Scotland tomorrow. I've been so motivated to get this blog up to date and finally, this morning, I wrote a post that has bridged the gap from last year's retrospective writing, to my pledge in January of this year to write regularly again. I'm stoked.
So we're heading to Scotland tomorrow. It's weird that I've actually just written retrospectively all about our experiences at Christmas and how I vowed never to travel again until covid was over. As I was getting packed this evening, I pulled out all the paperwork from the last trip. No wonder I was stressed: it was ridiculous!
You might wonder why I'm up at this time of night, even though I've packed? Well, Iain is downstairs in the office on a Teams Meeting with the Hurricanes management. I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but he's actually being interviewed for a job. I feel like this has all come about really quickly and think that getting organised for travelling to Scotland means I've not actually, properly, contemplated the prospect of moving to Wellington. As Fish would say, Jesus Christchurch. Depending on the outcome of this interview, we might end up having another really strange trip back to Scotland! Eeeeeeeeeeek. Watch. This. Space.
In other news, we've had bursts of activity over the last 10 days, coupled with lots and lots of lego. Some highlights include: me and William heading up to Domaine du Sers last week and him getting in tow with some french kids and playing all afternoon; meeting Odel, Gabriel and Iris at Billère outdoor pool on Thursday afternoon and staying for two hours(!); enjoying the pace of life on Rue Maréchal Joffre with evening ice-creams on Thursday, lunch with Jess on Friday and drinks with Hannah Garvie on Friday night; and the absolute pièce de résistance: going up to Jess and Olivier's place on Saturday afternoon and deciding to stay for a BBQ and camping out in their garden! William was absolutely over the moon (meaning he got so excited that he couldn't sleep but that's what happens with an over-excited Gidderson!).
In health related news, I have actually hit my target in the gym of weighing in under 70kgs (for the first time since 2009!). I am really proud of myself. It's taken a long time but I've shown such discipline to get here and I'm delighted. The best thing is that the changes have become my new normal so it's totally sustainable. William's news is that he lost one of his front teeth yesterday and now looks like a pirate. The petite souris brought him €2 last night so he was chuffed. And Iain got his MRI scan today and it looks like a torn meniscus right enough but with evidence of some arthritis. We'll see what the doc says when we get back from Scotland. Oh and I took the plunge and got my side shave done again! You can just about see it in the bottom photo. And and another oh! - I've still not heard anything else from Alan MacPherson at Edinburgh Uni. Pure amateurs.
Lorna.
