I hadn't been feeling great the day before we left Scotland but thought that it was probably just a culmination of burning the candle at both ends and many inadvertent glutening episodes. We arrived home to Pau on the Monday night and that night I woke up with a banging head ache. Over the next 24hrs my symptoms worsened: sore throat; streaming nose and sinus pain; a tickly cough which gradually became more chesty. I was feeling utterly lousy. Thankfully the two covid tests that I took were negative. I battled through the week, managing to do a wee bit of sorting from the trip, and taking William to get his new school bag and necessary stationery for le rentrée.
I'm so pleased that I felt well enough to farewell the Ramsays at Beanz on the morning that they left. I'm very sad to see Alisha go. She's been here since I arrived and has always been a big part of our my French adventure. William will miss Arlo and Kaia too. Alisha very kindly gifted me two beautiful teapots, a sugar bowl and milk jug, and a load of pretty cups. I'm so grateful to her and I'll cherish them as a physical reminder of our friendship. As you can imagine, there were a lot of tears when they had to leave for their train. The ever evolving world of rugby, eh?
As I continued to fight my cold, Iain took William on a variety of adventures in and around Pau. These included cycling trips, visiting his favourite pubs, ice cream and Hestivoc.
On Saturday night, Iain woke up with a soaring temperature and his symptoms quickly deteriorated over the following couple of days to exactly how I'd been feeling. Back to Real Life with a bump, eh? He did perk up by the middle of the week though so was able to keep William entertained with some geocaching whilst I embarked on the planning and shopping for the upcoming birthday...
All eyes to William's Big Day.
Lorna :)
