31 December 2022

Decorations, Exams, 'Flu, Football & Parties

It's the 31st of Dec and I'm desperate to get some round up posts written before the end of the year. To be fair, I reckon I've done remarkably well this year, finally getting a handle on this blog and writing regular posts so I want to finish on a high! It's also meant that I've been able to crack on with the foodie side of things too - even if that hasn't been quite as regularly updated.

Anyway, back to what's been happening this month. Knowing that things were going to get pretty full on, I decided that we would get our tree up and the house decorated on the first weekend of December. It worked perfectly as this was also the weekend that Ville de Pau did launched their Fête Nöel so by the 2nd, we were already feeling pretty festive. I was also feeling rather smug at the fact I'd also got my cards sent too. (Reduced numbers this year mind you, but sent away nonetheless). I wasn't happy with the trees at Auchan this year so we went over to Leclerc. William spotted one before I'd even parked the car so by the time I met them, the choice was made. And Iain and I thought he chose well...

School fête - already getting used to the vin chaud!

The next couple of weeks became a bit of a blur as my work got mega busy due to end of semester exams, I had my first Christmas dinner (rugby girls night out - straight after an exam!), we tried to do all our Christmas shopping, Iain's uni work got a bit real, and William was struck down with the 'flu and ended up in bed for a whole weekend and off school for three days. (We probably shouldn't have sent him in on the last two days of term as he still wasn't right.) It was rubbish for him - he'd been so excited to go to this year's fête des lumières but the best he could manage was to stand outside our front door for five minutes while the parade went past.

New festive clothes - forgot to get good photos!

Lego Master Builds continue...

The wee boy gets sick, but tries to put on a brave face:

Then I go down a rabbit hole of marking...

The day I officially finished at work for the holidays, I came home to this:

I had a lovely night with them, celebrating a full semester under my belt. But then I went into full Marking Hell, desperately wanting to get every script marked before Christmas so that I could feel that I was "done" and that I could enjoy my time off. It was days upon days of reading and red penning, day into night, interspersed with festive creative stuff to keep William entertained, festive snacks, Iris' birthday party and the Football World Cup Final. And finally, on the 22nd of December, the scripts were done, the marks were entered, I shut my computer down, and had a large celebratory vin rouge.

It's Christmaaaaaas!
Lorna :-)
