It's been a few weeks since I wrote anything which is testament to how busy I've been recently. I've got a bit more of a handle on my role at UPPA and having some time over the autumn holidays let me get a step (or maybe half a step!) ahead. I set myself the goal of not spending any time on a Sunday, prepping for lessons. And so far, I've managed to achieve that. Which in turn has helped my sleeping. So that's a win. It's also been a huge win that Mary has shared all her teaching content with me so I'm not starting from scratch every week. She's my ESL guardian angel!
Talking about sleep, I was absolutely delighted to welcome Iain and William home after their Scottish sojourn. Despite having a tidy house for a week, I missed them terribly. I couldn't find a natural rhythm in their absence and my sleep patterns were all over the show. It's just better when we're together. Since their return, Iain and I have tried to get out for some mind-clearing walks on a Thursday morning, and I was even back at the gym last week for the first time since my covid/chest infection. Due to my suspected hernia, I didn't want to do too much but I did manage to weigh myself. I don't know what I've been doing (right!), but I came in at 68.3kgs! Delighted is an understatement! Oh and on the subject of my suspected hernia, I saw the doc on Friday and it is, indeed, a hernia. We got our diaries out and I've arranged the surgery for the 4th January. Mental!
There's been some great jobs at home over the past couple of weeks. The first being that we finally bought some storage boxes for William's lego. This has meant we could split, sort and store everything based on colour or type. It's been an absolute game changer and it's also led to some incredible builds from the Master Builder.
I needed to post a letter to CPAM and William and I decided to do it by hand. It gave us a chance to head up to the old stomping ground and it's so funny seeing William tanking up Allée du Morlaas on his big boy bike these days after all those days of him doing laps on his very first balance bike.
The biggest task, however, was mending old Elephant who had been starting to look like he's was heading to the point of no return. With zero experience but a lot of hours watching The Repair Shop, I felt I was ready to take on this monumental, delicate operation. William chose the new fabric and we also picked up a load of stuffing, and I was set. It took a lot longer than I'd anticipated but I was absolutely delighted with the outcome. As was William, and that's the main thing!
Finally, I managed to get William into the Section Paloise Dauphins to continue his swimming. But, it was on a Tuesday night. At 5.30pm. At Louis Peguilhan. And last week, on his first session, it was pouring down. He went and he was fine, but he came out and told me immediately: I didn't like it and I don't want to go back. The time and location don't really work for me (I had to back track across this city in rush hour) and it seems it just didn't work for William either. He didn't want to go out at 5pm on a wet night after getting cozied in, infront of the tv. I wouldn't have wanted to either. So, Iain and I talked to him about it and said that if he's not swimming, he needs to do something else. He agreed to try the basketball again so Iain took him down to watch last Wednesday afternoon. Within 10mins, he'd taken his jacket off and was taking part. He came bouncing in the door afterwards, pleading with me to let him join the club. Amazing. That's what you want. So he went back this afternoon and he seems to love it. We're delighted.
So that's me finished teaching for the week. I'm planning to get stuck into my lesson / exam prep over the next couple of days so that I can relax over the weekend. Work / life balance and all that! Oh aye, and I've also got one eye on Christmas already. I've even written most of my cards. Boom!
Lorna :-)
