A Big Surprise!

I returned from Melbourne on Monday 25th January and Iain picked me up at the airport. On the way home he told me that he had some work to do in the late afternoon so was heading out for an hour or so. I had a few things to do so was quite happy to get the run of the house for a while. So, I'm lying on my bed chatting to Grant (my head of department) on the phone when Iain comes running back into the house acting all weird and telling me something's happened to the car and I need to come outside immediately. He looked terrified and wasn't really making any sense so I thought he'd crashed the Big Rig or knocked someone down.

Before I knew it we were out on the street and Iain's saying to me, "Look, it's the car! - It's turned into a Mini!" I couldn't believe it. There was an orange old school mini sitting there in all its retro glory and it was for me. The next part was all a bit of a haze as I was so shocked. Iain gave me the keys and I got into the driver's seat where I was just checking out the interior still in amazement at my present. Iain was crouching (it was a long way down!) next to me to see into the car and the next thing I knew, his crouch had turned into him going onto one knee and as I realised what he was doing, I knew immediately what was coming next...Yes, he asked me to marry him! As most of you reading this will already know, I said, "Yes", so whoopee, we're engaged and there's a McAvoy/Cleland wedding (hahaha!) to follow at some point! (FYI it will be back in Scotland so no need for you Scots to save for a big trip to NZ) Thanks to everyone who has sent us all the best wishes from back home. We can't wait to see you guys and celebrate the good news properly.

PS - Photos of the engagement ring (the Mini!) to follow...
