On Monday this week, Miriam messaged to see if we fancied a wee trip to the beach at Orthez. It's a lake with a private beach area about 30mins drive from Pau. With soaring temperatures, we jumped at her offer! And typically, when we arrived at Orthez, a thick mist was in the air and it actually felt quite cold.
We were close to pulling the pin, but could see the mist clearing in the distance and I was so pleased that we stayed on. The kids all hung out, we had a picnic and splashed around in the lake. A cracking day! I forgot to take photos and remember just as we were leaving - this is the only one I have on William and the beach! Must do better next time. This week also saw me taking the plunge with my hair. Lots of sunshine and months since its last colour treatment, and it was looking tiresome to say the least. I risked a salon that I noticed was open on the holiday this week (some sort of religious holiday) and as Iain was off and could take William, I just went for it. The girl did not have a word of English so there was a lot of gesticulating from me, and desperate searches of google to describe foils.
I must admit, I was really starting to panic when she just started painting my hair without any foils. Unbeknownst to me, this is a colouring method known as balayage where the colour is gradually moved through the hair. It was probably a bit more blonde that I would normally go for, and she was a bit conservative with the clippers, but definitely a lot better than it was. Pheew!
Although we've only been here for a few months, this week also involved goodbyes as Miriam is moving to Paris. As a send off, we went out for dinner at the very cool L'Amateur de Thes, a top-end Japanese restaurant in town. The food was incredible and they were able to adjust each of the dishes to make them gf. It was also nice to get dressed up and enjoy an evening in town with the ladies.
LM. :)
