Week 13: 4-10 Sep; Mussey Lads & Section Paloise

I'm still in contact with some of the "kids" I taught at Mussey Grammar. I call them kids but, tellingly, they're actually all in their late twenties. They're older now that I was when I taught them! Christ, I'm old. Anyway, Tom Searle was over in France visiting his dad, and Mikey Thomas was coming to visit Tom at his dad's place which isn't really that far from us. Cue a road trip by the boys to come and see their "old" teacher.
Absolutely brilliant catching up with them and hearing where their lives have taken them since I last saw them. (Probably drunk, at the leaver's dance?!) Many a bottle of wine was consumed and stories told about MGS days. Lovely. It's likely Tom will be back down at some point as his dad's place is only about two hours away. He also made a new friend in William! Top lads.

On Sunday, William and I headed to our first Section Paloise match. They were playing Lyon in their first home match of the season (after two away matches) and secured a very encouraging 30-14 victory. It was quite a different experience for me with William who is now much more aware of his surroundings than he was at the Naki matches. He needed a lot more entertainment than the old book and snuggle that used to sort him out back at Yarrow Stadium. Chips were definitely a good idea but I can see how this will become more challenging as he gets older! Great to keep him going though.

LM. :)
