This week was rather eventful. I had abdominal surgery, Ronnie and Sheena came over to help look after William while I was recovering, and while they were here, Sheena chopped down and dug out the roots of the banana tree in the front garden. Even as I write this now, I'm still amazed she actually did it!
Anyway, I've been having all sorts of unpleasantness in my pelvis/abdomen in the last year really, and certainly since I had William. Not to go into too much detail here but the french doctors have been awesome, sending me for scan after scan and really trying to figure out what was going on. They decided that it would be much better to have a look inside so off I went for laparoscopic surgery. Turns out, it was adhesions caused, probably, by the cesarean. The surgeon has tidied them up as best he could and has sent me on my way. It's been quite an experience having surgery here as I'm used to a system in NZ which is not unlike the NHS where everything is taken care for you. Not here. I had to go up to the hospital to pre-book my recovery bed, organise an appointment with the anaesthetist before the surgery, collect me own post operative meds from the pharmacy, and phone the local district nursing bank to sort out someone to come in each day and check on me. Mental. And even harder when you're doing this in broken french. Fortunately, the date for my surgery fell right on the cusp of the school holidays so Ronnie and Sheena were available to come over, look after William on the day I went into hospital and take the pressure off Iain and me.
The week actually started out quietly. William and I did our usual Monday morning shop, I did more gf cooking, and William and I hung out and played for most of Monday and Tuesday.
Ronnie and Sheena were due to arrive quite early on the Tuesday but due to flight cancellations, ended up flying into Bordeaux, resulting in Iain having to do a four hour round trip to pick them up. By Wednesday, they were feeling a bit more relaxed and after some lounging in the sun, got stuck into the banana tree. Hilarious! And some evidence of what brought us all together in the first place this week....
What a week! LM :)
