The week building up to Christmas Day was suitably busy and full of seasonal nonsense. As playgroup leader, I organised our Christmas party at Christine's place where Bonnie did herself proud in the Santa Claus garb. We did a big shared morning tea and I decided to make a big batch of tablet for the occasion. For a first shot, it was pretty good!
The Christmas party was full on. Everyone was there and we were all high on sugar and the excitement of the season! I thought William would not be happy about his Santa experience but he was loving it! Good work, Bonnie!
He got a great present in the secret Santa gift swap: a dinosaur jigsaw. Its actually quite difficult so it will keep him going for quite a while.
It's interesting seeing how different cultures approach different holidays. Christmas in NZ was actually quite a subdued affair with little decorations in the shops and more focus on what people were doing for their summer holidays. Here, in France, it was all about the food. Not surprising, really. Some of the Christmas Logs in the shops looked incredible (hell for a coeliac) and there just seemed to be so much chocolate everywhere. The cheese counters had never looked so inviting. Quite amazing.
Appropriately, William was in full elf gear when we did our big food shop on Friday morning. With Christmas on Monday this year, I just couldn't face Auchan over the weekend so we got sorted on Friday and then the big countdown was on. I felt so smug getting home at lunchtime, safe in the knowledge that all the food and booze was in. Hurrah!
LM :)
