| Reactions like his mum |
I've been keen for both Iain and William to come along and meet my volleyball crew. I think its really good for William to see that I have a life outside of being his mum and the positive role modelling aspect is not lost on me. Especially as a woman. Anyway the two of them came round last Monday to watch one of our rescheduled matches. With a 8.45pm warm up, we were really pushing William's bedtime but as soon as he got in the hall, rather than shying away from the people and the busyness of setting a hall up for a game, he was running between people warming up, chasing balls and rolling around the floor with me while I was stretching. It was brilliant. Iain said it all felt "strangely familiar" and although he maintains that he would never step back on court, I'm sure I could see a wee glint in his eye! I'll keep trying for the beach season ;-)
Last week, I was quite nervous so didn't really get into much of a groove, but this week, I really enjoyed the game. We won the first two sets but made too many changes so lost the next two meaning a deciding fifth, which we won. Until last week, Iain though we just rotated on to serve and was pleasantly surprised to hear that we actually played set positions. Most of the time, I've no idea what's actually going on, I'm just replying on the snippets of rotations and coaching that I can remember from my days at Jets. Sometimes, my movement feels so slow and languid that I definitely feel almost 40 (?!) but I'm just happy to be out playing again, and meeting new (French) people. The power of sport eh?
LM.
