St-Jean-de-Luz

After weeks and weeks of packing, moving, unpacking and general sorting, we really needed some fun family time away from the usual four walls. With some decent spring weather forecast, we got up reasonably early on Sunday, threw our beach gear into the Berlingo and headed west, to the coast. Destination: Saint-Jean-de-Luz. This was both Iain and William's first time at this pretty little beach town and the great thing about the place is that despite it still being in France, it doesn't close on a Sunday. You can buy lunch, you can shop, you can get a beer. It's just a wonderful little place.

Amazingly, we got a space at the indoor car park right next to the main beach so it was just a short walk over to the sand. As ever, we were well prepared with snacks and the flask but I headed to the Casino Metro and got us meat, cheese, bread etc so we could have a picnic on the beach. In the height of summer, this place is absolutely rammed but, even with great weather on Sunday, it was still reasonably quiet. Absolutely wonderful to get back to the ocean. It's good for the soul.

Later on in the afternoon, we packed up and went for a wee wander around the town, enjoying the late afternoon sunshine and atmosphere; eating ice-cream (of course), visiting a few shops and stopping in at the beautiful Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in the heart of the old town. All in all, a great day trip and we were very much in agreement that we need to do stuff like this more often.

A great day out.
Lorna.
