Hondarribia

Yesterday I got to enjoy one of my favourite holiday activities: going on a boat. Okay, so it was a five minute water taxi across La Bidassoa estuary, but it still counts, right?

We decided to spend the morning over in Spain, in a beautiful wee town called Hondarribia. We got to wander the old town, get shouted at by an old woman desperate to give us directions (we don’t know how she thought she knew where we were going), have pintxos and gelatos in the old fisherman’s town, and generally mosey around like you do on holiday. It was braw. Iain even ordered sardines and they didn’t come in a tin! (Reference to Italy last year :-)).

Although William looks like he’s having a great time in this photo on the boat, looks can be deceiving. He whinged and moaned the whole way round Hondarribia so we pulled the pin after lunch and all headed back to the hotel for siestas. It has actually been his first afternoon sleep in about a month and boy, did he need it. He was like a different child in the afternoon, laughing and joking and demolishing about 10 salmon and avocado California rolls at a sushi restaurant for dinner. I think we forgot just how much a good afternoon sleep will set him up for the rest of the day and beyond. Might need to reinstate them at this rate! 😴
