It's been a busy first week to the holidays. I'm trying to keep physically active as much as possible so have roped in the help of Mr Joe Wickes again. I've managed to do three, yes three HIIT sessions this week. It just all suits me as I can train in the garden while William is pottering around. I'm also doing them first thing in the morning so its a good, positive start to the day.
I've had a couple of trips out with William this week. We went to Beaumont on Monday with his bike and he's doing really well. I'm so proud of how quickly he went onto the peddle bike. The new playground at Beaumont is also open so we played there for a while. He's starting to work out that that he can do different things with his body. Jumping was the big thing this week.
On Wednesday we had a trip to the mountains with Sandra, Giddy, Astrid, Leandro and Lucien. It was my first trip to this place - Plateau de Benou - and it was absolutely stunning. A nice wee (safe) stream for the boys to play in and as much open space as you could imagine. William had a ball. As lunchtime rolled round, the big grey clouds came rolling in and then we started to hear the rumbles of thunder in the distance. We had to move. Then Astrid announced that her family actually had a cottage in the next valley and we could go round there to wait out the storm. Mental! So off we all went to this amazing cottage up in the mountains, surrounded by ringing cow bells. It was like something from a movie. The storm didn't last too long and and we spent the rest of the days hanging out in the garden. It was just a lovely day until suddenly I heard William screaming. And I mean screaming. Rather than coming through the house to where the adults were sitting, he tried to off-road round the side of the house and waded, bare footed, through an enormous nettle patch. I found him, right in the middle of them, looking like he'd been trying to make crop circles. It was awful. From the soles of his feet to mid thigh, he was covered in nettle stings and, understandably, he was beside himself. It took about 45mins to calm him down and all the way home in the car he was still whimpering. Wee soul. But, all's well that ends well and he'll know never to go into nettles again.
Iain was actually up in the mountains the same day as us, but with the rugby boys, and they were doing a big overnight adventure. I'd actually been sent on a mission to buy him all the necessary gear like a day pack and proper head torch etc. It will be good to have this stuff for us to use too. He was away for a few days and it actually coincided with the first-of-the-season staff get together at Fred and Anne's new house in Morlaas. Fred very kindly sent me a message to say that even though Shadow wouldn't be able to come, they hoped that William and I would still attend. It was a good night and William had a brilliant time playing with their pets, and in their pool.
The rest of the week has been spent sorting the house for Alan and Euan getting here and taking my usual array of food photos for the potential food / travel blog. I've actually published it now, and I've created some social media accounts around it too. It's not just an idea anymore. It's a very small embryo. Eeek.
LM :-)
