With William going back to school and the break in Ondres, September ended up as quite a busy wee month, especially given how quiet (read: strange) life has been this year. My days haven't been as sociable as usual as I'm still avoiding the swimming pool, and there's waaaay less coffee morning with the girls (party due to Sophie now having a job and Hayley still being in NZ) but it doesn't feel like I have nothing to do. Au contraire, I feel like I always have something to do. I'm back doing my french lessons with Sylvie again - which means I've also got to fit in homework; I'm trying to keep my running or walking going even though my heel pain has gotten so bad that I had to make an appointment with the podiatrist; and I'm also trying to take control of my wider health issues by following up on my thyroid and conditions linked to coeliac disease. I've had to change doctor which has been a bit annoying but my new guy can speak a little english and once my suspicions of insufficient thyroid meds were confirmed by blood test I reckon he realised that I was actually quite aware of my body and that I wasn't wasting his time. He's sent me for further scans which I'm pleased about and he was also pretty happy to give me scrips for necessary vaccines. I feel like I had too many other things to worry about last year to take care of the whole of me, so its nice to actually just be looking at my health holistically and getting myself a bit of an MOT.
Anyway, as the saying goes, a picture tells a thousand words, so here's a visual journey of the month;
My bruising from my mountain bike fall was actually pretty impressive:
Walking home from school via Hédas. It's easy to forget how old and beautiful our neighbourhood is. I sent this photo to Adine and she said it was like something from Game of Thrones.
I've also been on a real cathartic journey of relinquishing a lot of William's baby clothes and gear. Elly came round and left with bags upon bags of stuff. Then very kindly arrived back with thank you gifts for us. Here is William with his scraper book all about the planets. She also got us an amazing book with hand drawn picture of Pau Old Town. It is a beautiful book and covers all the streets that we walk every single day. It will be a lovely thing to look back at in years to come.
Here's William playing with some of his new birthday toys:
I'm still on the hunt for a new black handbag. I reckon this is the best I've seen but I'm not entirely sold on it:
We've not signed William up for any Wednesday afternoon sports clubs yet. I think he's outgrown gymnastics but I'm not sure about the multisport (as I felt that some of the exercises were pitched too high for the age of the kids) so we have found ourselves with a bit of freedom on Wednesdays. We've been really lucky with the rugby schedule as it's also coincided with Iain's days off so we've been out doing things together as a family. We even tried the driving range out in Idron. Based on memories of previously experiences, I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it but it was actually really good fun.
Then, suddenly, it was autumn. It was honestly like someone had flicked a switch and we needed to look out all the warm and waterproof gear.
The shop owners are obviously trying anything to get customers back into town post-lockdown and pre-potential-next-lockdown so there's various free events been popping up. Here we are at the Robots. William was fascinated but didn't want to get his photo taken with them.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm back into my french lessons. This has meant I'm down in the office more, and as such I've noticed that the wall seems to be crumbling away at the skirting board. I really hope this doesn't lead to problems similar to what we've experienced before. EEEEK.
My feet have really been playing up and I can't run at the moment. The weather had picked up today and I decided that rather than avoid exercise due to my food injury, I could at least enjoy the day via two wheels. I headed out to the lake at Laroin and it was glorious. Definitely a morning well spent.
And here's some photos of William at school pick being a wee street urchin and waving to his pal Arthur. I love these photos as William is at the heart of them, surrounded by quintessential french architecture and culture. God, we're so lucky to live here.
That's me for now.
Lorna :-)
