Rugby affects everything. This year my birthday fell on a Thursday but as Section were playing Brive on the Friday night, Iain was travelling on the Thursday and staying the night before the game so the celebrations ended up getting split between the Wednesday and the Saturday. I'm all for stringing birthdays out so no complaints here!
Fish said that he would babysit for us on the Wednesday so I tried to book at table in town. Neither Resto du Vin or Maynats were open so we went for Omnivore. Not bad at all for a third choice! We're so spoiled living in town. We really got the glad rags on (I broke out my new dress that I'd bought on holiday) and even the staff at Nomad and Cafe du Passage nodded and jokingly clapped in approval when they saw walking past in our fancy gear! We had a couple of swift GnTs in Bar No. 5 and caught up with Carolyn. It was really lovely meeting people we knew in town again and seeing how they were getting on after lockdown and the gradual reopenings. Dinner was a marvellous affair of beautifully presented, delicious cuisine. The best part being that the girl had noted I was sans gluten on our reservation so all the food I ordered was tailored to me. Proper fancy. We had a nightcap in Au Grain du Raisin on the way home and it was just lovely, sitting outside in the cool late summer wether and having a good old dram.
Once Iain got home from Brive on Friday night (they lost), we had the rest of the weekend to mosey around and relax. The best bit was him baking my birthday cake, all with butter icing. What a guy!
