The Final Countdown to Christmas

The week before Christmas is always chaos but throw into the mix: William catching up on missed swimming lessons, a bulging disc in my back, an MRI, an introductory physio appointment and Iain in England for a match. I just like to keep busy. 😱

We'd already agreed on what needed to be bought for Christmas Day in terms of food so William and I went to do the non-perishables shop on Sunday. It turned out the turkeys had a use by date of after Christmas Day so it meant I was actually able to get everything I needed in one go. So good to get that ticked off the list.

We spent the evening out at the Christmas markets. It was an absolutely beautiful evening and I think the rest of Pau was there too. After months stuck in the house, it was actually a bit strange being out in such huge crowds of people. Covid? Schmovid! William finally got his annual Christmastime balloon. The queue was enormous but he waited patiently and was absolutely stoked with this years' choice:

He was so amped with it that he even took it out for a walk the following day!

More Christmas goodies are coming thick and fast, with Campari cocktails now on the bar menu, and Fish returning from England with a load of GF treats for me. What a man.

Why is it that when you have one appointment, something always ends up falling on the same day? I managed to get a date for my scan for Tuesday but Iain was working and William had catch-up swimming lessons. Aaaargh. Karen said that she would help me out so I dropped him at her place before heading to the radiology clinic. Waste of time. I got there and the receptionist had to admit to me that I had been booked in, incorrectly. That the didn't actually have an MRI machine in that clinic so I should never have been given an appointment. Talk about raging. In the meantime, William's swimming lessons ended up getting cancelled so the entire day was a farce. He was happy enough though; he spent the afternoon drawing pictures of Santa in Karen's place.

Wednesday saw the Christmas prep go to the next level with the start of the food prep. As I'm doing the turkey for Alisha's, I said I'd do cranberry sauce too but, annoyingly, this also means making it from scratch. On Thursday morning (Christmas Eve) I made the tiramisu - the good old Jamie version.

Tick tock, tick tock! 🎄🎅
