Treat Week & Back Issues

A retrospective post, aided by my camera roll and weekly planner...👀📷📅

I started the week with, just because they're finally open, a coffee from Blend. What joy. I went for a run with Iain on Monday afternoon out at Lons Lac and I was in absolute bits when I finished. I don't think we even managed 5k. It's starting to really get me down so I booked an appointment with my GP to see what he thought. He looked in a book that was probably as old as me then sent me away with a script for a heap of drugs. I'm hoping that my new insoles will help to address the issues I'm having, but at the moment it's a concoction of paracetamol, tramadol and prednisone. No anti-inflammatories. Damn you, single kidney.

Iain regularly says to me, "Just get/do X; you never buy yourself anything". This week I have really embraced his encouragement with a rather large clothing investment. I'd seen these Docs in Glasgow in March but couldn't justify the price. Jinty gave me some money for my birthday and, with nothing else ever coming close, I decided to treat myself. As soon as they arrived, I was upstairs, playing at styling them with pretty much every outfit I own. I'm not sure I've ever fallen in love with a pair of shoes, but I'm head over heels.

With the salons also reopening this week, we've all been in, getting scalped. William looks very smart, and I no longer resemble a badger.

We've had some beautiful but cold mornings. Here's Iain doing the school run with us:

And the building work in Hédas continues at pace:

I've been beavering away all week on my usual jobs. I'm really working hard on my french, and I've now started the annual Christmas card marathon. William has asked if he can sign his own name in each of the cards and I'm delighted. I'm finding that the best way to do these is with a drink in hand. Oh, and I've also learned that Baileys is regarded as bit of a Christmas tipple. I've had a go, and I'm all in.

We're getting a bit sick of lockdown. Not seeing anyone, not going anywhere; so on Friday night we decided to get takeaway from Vintage Cafe. A lot of the places in town are doing takeaway that wouldn't normally. They're clearly just trying to keep themselves busy while this lockdown continues. I'd seen a board outside Vintage so went in and put our order in at lunchtime. They assured me that they could easily cater for a GF meal so there it was, a fully GF takeaway dinner. We had a salmon salad to start, lamb shanks and a creamy risotto for the main and while Iain had a baba au rhum for dessert, I had a simple fruit salad. On the whole, the food was okay, but it was simply the experience of having someone else cook for us for the first time in months which made this special.

We're really grateful that some of the city/country is reopening, but, honestly, it can be difficult to get fully into the Christmas spirit whilst everything is so subdued. Here's the square, gearing up for the annual market. Nothing like the normal event. :-(

Finally, this weekend saw us resurrect the family zoom quiz. It's always mental. Every cloud and all that...

Lorna :-)
