Monday - A slow start to the week with William and I getting a long lie and then pottering around for the morning. He was deep in Lego all morning. I'd texted Katerina to see if she wanted to hang out with the kids but they've not been well, so it was just us today. After lunch we headed out on a big bike ride adventure. We ended up going down past the skatepark, and on towards the kayak centre but then turning left and headed through lots of Bizanos backroads and up into Trespoey before making our way back into town. All in, it was about 7.5km and the best bit was giving William the chance to ride on lots of different roads. At one point he even said to me, "I'm like a real person now!" He was so proud of himself.
Tuesday - Started the day with physio at 9.30am. William was a bit more reluctant to take part this week. He's just been watching instead. Geoffrey seems to be happy with my progress and said we'll go even harder on Thursday. Reluctant to head straight home, I took William for a croissant, bought a paper and parked up in Place Clemenceau in the cold spring sunshine. Within 10mins, we'd met Laurence and Liana (and the new prop, Max), and Sandra and Giddy. It was great: the kids ran all over the square playing some crazy games and we were able to catch up in peace. 😉 However, by about 11am I was absolutely freezing so had to pull the pin and come home for a heat. Iain was off in the afternoon so after lunch we just all hung out together at home. William caught up on some "homework", and we got some chores done like putting all the couch covers back on after the mammoth clean up programme from the damp proofing that was done last week. We also managed a wee bit of gardening.
Wednesday - William was starting to get a bit antsy so I was looking for things for him to do / people to hang out with. We ended up heading over to Alisha's in the afternoon for a bit of a run around in the garden. It was exactly what we all needed. Phew! Came home and I made mince and tatties for dinner. William annihilated it!
Thursday - A massive day! Physio at 9.30, went to Casino for supplies then came home and made a picnic. Drove out to Emmaüs where I met Leesa with Erin, Tynan and Callie, and we hung out there for about an hour, looking at (and scaring) the animals and playing at the playground. From there, we convoyed to Domaine du Sers (and learning how to access the parking inside the parc - yay!) where we spent hours and hours hanging out in the sunshine eating, chatting and letting the kids run wild. Alisha, Arlo and Kai'a joined us, and then so did Katerina, Noah and Maya so it really was a big day out. The parc was absolutely mobbed too so we were stoked to learn about the new parking. And it was even warm enough for me to strip down to my singy. Spring is deffo here!
Friday - Game day. Big match against Bayonne but with a late kick off they weren't meeting until 4pm. Iain and William went for haircuts in the morning and I tried my hand at making tatttie scones. They were okay but nowhere near enough salt. Will deffo try again though. We were meant to meet Alisha at the bike park after lunch but she had car issues so we ended up going out there again and hung out for most of the afternoon and into early evening. We went for a walk through the country roads out by them and it was just great to explore new paths. Section won their match 43-33. Phew.
Saturday - Today was a momentous day: Prince Philip's funeral. After lunch, I got myself all ready with the F&M Royal Blend tea to watch the funeral with the correct brew, and the bloomin' tv crashed. Absolutely bealing. We ended up taking William to Beaumont instead and let him run around with (seemingly) every other child in Pau. Collected some much needed supplies (booze 😉) from Monoprix on the way home and after dinner, managed to get Rosco and Vicki for a mate date. They are just as daft as ever and it was brilliant seeing their faces.
Sunday - More localised hanging out. This time at the fancy château park for a picnic (William loves a picnic) and some football in the sun. We returned home in the mid afternoon and hung out in the garden with me doing my usual pottering. Out of nowhere we heard a "snap" sound and I looked at Iain with the "what was that?!" expression. His response? "The rat trap". William raced to the bin, excitedly searching for the rat while I'm shouting, "I don't know if you really want to see this?!" It was indeed a rat, and it hadn't quite been caught in the trap. It was only half dead and looking up at us, jerking around in agony. Iain put it out of it's misery with a hammer. Classy. As all this was unfolding, William, full of knowledge of death via the big funeral the day before, announced, "The rat is dead, like Prince Philip. That is the Duke of Edinburgh-rat." We were absolutely howling. 😂
