Lockdown #3

Last night, President Marcron addressed the nation. If the last year has taught us anything, it's that when the Gaffer is on the tele, it's not going to be good news. Now, possibly due to the social and political bubble I find myself in here in France, it felt like news of his announcement came out of nowhere and we were, therefore, suddenly awash with rumours as to what he was going to say. Worryingly, it all seemed to centre on the schools, and that this time he was going to close them. Last night rolled round, Emmanuel appeared on our screens and confirmed all the rumours that we felt couldn't possibly be true: the schools would be closing one week early before the spring holidays. 😩 I must admit that I wasn't in a good place today. There were tears, the lot. I just had this overwhelming sense of disappointment and lack of progress. What have we actually done to combat this thing in the past 12 months? For a whole year now, it's been an unpleasant dance of the hokey cokey with us in and out, and part in, and part out. And then I spoke on the group chat to the Blazers who are now looking at getting vaccinated this year and in the meantime, they're continuing to live their normal lives. I've just been feeling pretty desperate. In order to try and pull myself out of my slump, I messaged Claire Whitelock to see if she was going to be doing another one of her regular roadies to the coast before the 10km limit came into force. She wasn't, but she was meeting some of the rugby girls in town for takeaway lunch and invited me along. It was actually a really lovely way to spend the afternoon: chilling out and catching up with Claire, Courtney, Elly and Ciara. It's was also good to know that I wasn't the only one feeling pretty rubbish about the situation.

Lockdown #3...bring it on.
