I started the week off by sweeping in to help my friend who's been finding things tough with two under two. I actually really enjoyed spending so much time with her and her kids and just helping her to get her head above water again. It's what friends are for, and when you live away from home, friends become family.
It was Iain's birthday this week so I had to try and get creative around his present(s). It's been really tough as all the non-essential shops are closed so I resorted to some decent whiskey and haribos. I also tried my hand at making him a bakewell tart birthday cake. It was all going well until I put the icing on, but took to long doing the red stripes so that the white icing had already set so it didn't feather properly. Arrrrgh. If (and when) I make it again, I'll probably have a go at making proper, sweet, shortcrust pastry because the briseé stuff just wasn't what you would expect with a tart. Anyway, I think the birthday boy enjoyed it!
On Friday, Iain left for Agen. After so many down weekends, it felt really odd that he was away and William and I had to quickly find our usual wee routine when it's just the two of us. The ponytail was at William's request, even though it doesn't look like it. The weather forecast for Saturday was incredible (like a normal day for this time of year in Pau) and I felt really guilty at not really taking advantage of it with a drive to the coast or something similar now that the 10km restrictions have lifted but I didn't want to risk 90mins driving with my healing back, plus the fact I don't really have a driving licence. So, we ended up doing a big morning ride out to the mountain bike park. It was absolutely glorious and both of us just enjoyed getting out and about on our bikes again. I have definitely lost a bit of confidence after the recent crash so William was encouraging me all round the park. Very cute.
