As soon as we got back to Glasgow, we were straight into the usual whirlwind of visits and catch ups. On the Sunday night, we went over to Brian Martin & Mel's place for dinner. Mad to think that the last time we saw them was the night of their wedding, the day before we got back to France and the world closed. Anyway, it was really brilliant to see them, and their absolute labour-of-love home which is spectacular. The other thing that was spectacular was that we were in the delivery area for Tofu, a Chinese takeaway place that acutally does gluten free! It was probably my first authentic Chinese food in about eight years and my god, I went hard!
The rest of the week was spent preparing for, and celebrating William turning SIX! Iain and I went into town on Tuesday to do some jobs: shopping for William and finally signing our wills. The joys of adulthood! Glasgow was looking particularly beautiful and the familiarity of your hometown is unbeatable.
Thursday morning rolled round and he was so excited. We spent time building his lego and then indulged him in exactly everything that he wanted to do: soft play and mini golf. Later that evening, we went out for a quiet dinner with Ronnie and Sheena at the Stag and Thistle in Sstrathbungo. I'd snuck a Colin the Caterpillar cake in with me and he ended up having the whole bar singing "Happy Birthday" to him. He was a bit overwhelmed tbh!
It was his actual birthday on the Thursday but Sheena and Ronnie very kindly let us throw a party for all the family in their house on the Friday evening so there was definitely a bit of organising to do as we put up some decorations and I made mince and totties (at William's request) for twenty people. The weather continued to play the game (remarkable) and we all ate, drank, and played in the garden until it got dark. William had an absolute ball.
Before we knew it, our five weeks in the Motherland were coming to an end. It was time to have one last curry, pack our bags and make the trip back to France. Fortunately, our Covid passes meant that travel into Europe was much less complicated than the trip to Glasgow so it was off to Edinburgh for a flight to Toulouse and the train back to Pau. (Yip, this train actually went!) It was a brilliant summer in Scotland, made even better by the unusually amazing weather but after living out of bags for five weeks, it was also bloomin' great to be home.
Time to start navigating life with the two of us at home everyday.
Lorna :-)
