After the "BANG" of my birthday, October actually started off fairly quiet. Iain and I have found our rhythm of going to the gym Monday, Wednesday and Friday straight after the school run, and trying to get out for some sort of cardio session on a Tuesday and a Thursday morning. Obvs, this isn't a strict regime and I've been mixing things up and adjusting where necessary. The pool's changed its opening hours (again) so I went on the Thursday for my first proper swim since the start of Covid. I decided that a 1km time trial was the best reintroduction to the Life Aquatic and actually, it wasn't horrendous. I'd argue that Thursday's session should be classed as a "baseline" swim. It was, after all, a whole 18months since the last time I'd swam, and it was still a minute faster than Jan 2020 (when I'd been swimming heaps in the autumn). It looks like all the running, cycling, gymming, and fasting over the last year and a half is paying off after all.
It felt right to celebrate getting back in the pool by having a James Bond style vodka martini. They're my current drink of choice. ;-)
In other sporting news, William is now going full noise at both Judo and Tennis. I take him to Judo on Wednesday afternoons and Iain does the Saturday morning tennis shift. He's taken a wee while to get used to the expectations at Judo (the leader is very strict) but he is now staying on the mat and trying to do his own belt when it comes off.
There's been quite an emphasis on sorting the house out this week. The velux saga continues but at least I've managed to give the place a decent clean, get the chimney swept and the wood delivery done. It's been much colder in the mornings but its not quite cold enough (yet) to get the fire on. I'm simply ready and waiting! I'm also trying to sort through a lot of belongings so I've been selling and giving stuff away at pace. I'm also trying to use things up that have sat in cupboards for months (toiletries, food etc) and generally cleanse the house. This led me to finally make an appointment for the massage that Gregor & Emma gifted me for my 40th birthday. God knows why I didn't do this sooner. There's definitely been a few times in the last two years that I could have done with some quiet time to relax!
In addition to the physical sorting and cleansing, I've been making a greater effort with my writing and trying to document lots of food stuff, with the Food Blog getting a bit more airtime. If I can get enough (good) content on there, I'm going to launch it as a proper website. Watch this space.
There's not been much more on this week. I was at the physio for the first time in months on Wednesday and have some new exercises to add to my arsenal. He's happy with my progress though. On Saturday (yesterday) we finally caught up with Jess, Olivier, Arts and Frida. It was really great to see them and after lunch we all ended up playing football in the château parc. William was struggling when things weren't going his way but it was a good and necessary lesson for him. Aaaaagh, the joys of parenting.
Lorna. :-)
