As my birthday approached this year and the age old question of "what do you want for your birthday?" was repeatedly asked and I couldn't give a definitive answer, I knew what I didn't want: more stuff. I'd initially put a wee list of things of potential ideas together which included luggage and a coat but as my actual birthday drew closer, I reconsidered and was clear: I don't need presents just, because. We have heaps of luggage. Why get a new case? I have even more jackets and coats. Completely unnecessary. It left Iain with a few smaller items to consider and I was pleased and excited.
Friday rolled round and my God, what a day I had. After I'd gone to bed on Thursday night, Iain had put up bunting and other decorations and wrapped my gifts for me to come down to in the morning. He got me a magazine subscription, a cocktail shaker and ear-rings. I was absolutely delighted! The rest of the day was a busy affair, doing all the things that I really wanted to do. We dropped William at school and headed to the gym, got home, got spruced up then headed to Biarritz for lunch. I'd had an idea of going back to Le Tandem as it had been so good when we were there in June and it did not disappoint. Two glasses of champagne and a seafood extravaganza later we bought ice-cream and had a walk along the beach. It needed to be a quick turnaround in order to be back in Pau to collect William but that was fine. We all came back to the house and chilled out for a bit then Iain baked my bake while William and I went for a walk and I bought some vermouth (one eye on the cocktail shaker!). Before we knew it, it was apero time so we had a drink at Bondi, then one at No.5, I ordered a curry and we all went home for a massive feed. After William went to bed, Iain had a go at the first cocktails: vodka martinis, and we, very suitably, drank them whilst settling down on the couch to watch a Bond movie. What a really great day!
The rest of the weekend was slightly less busy, but just as enjoyable. I met William and Iain down at William's tennis on Saturday morning (after I'd had the guys round to sweep the chimney) then we enjoyed what seemed like the last proper day of summer: sunshine and 27*C! They played football in the park while I read my book and chilled out. It was back to good old Strictly on Saturday night and then on Sunday we were invited round to Magalie and Dennis' place for a quadruple joint birthday celebration for Magalie, Leesa, Claire and me. The kids ran riot while we ate, drank and blethered. A good day all round and a brilliant end to my birthday weekend. Truly spoiled.
Lorna :)
