The Great Auckland Karaoke Hunt

Katie, Steph and I also managed to get into the tourist trail during their stay. This involved us braving the elements and heading into the city for the day. We started with climbing to the top of Mount Eden, one of the many dormant volcanoes in Auckland and the highest natural point in the city at 196m above sea level. From here you can peer into the 50m crater. There's also a great view of the city from here (even better on a clear day) and here's a shot of Iain's new place of work: Eden Park. They're currently rebuilding it for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. As the weather closed in, we decided to take up the Kareoke Trail, so began seeking out and venturing into some of the dodgiest Japanese Kareoke bars you can imagine up and down Queen Street. These were judged on: cleanliness, type of couches, size, decor, staff, and if the 'menu' was actually in English. I hate to admit it but we didn't actually manage to sing a note. Steph was bitterly disappointed. We gave up the ghost and went for a curry.
We were actually on a bus back to Takapuna, but Steph's just so used to pulling in the 62B defensive stance.
Looking forward to their next visit already!
