William took a tumble in the garden this week. In trying to save his cupcake that he was eating at the time, he allowed himself to faceplant and in doing so, impaled his chin on the spike of a palm tree that had been chopped down. It was a right sair yin, and Iain reckoned it needed a stitch, so off we trotted for our first French A&E visit. Thankfully, we were all able to go together. Even just going to the hospital in a new country is a complete adventure when you've never been before and you're not sure of the system. We initially went to a emergency clinic just down the road from us, but they took one look at William and sent us to the main hospital which is less than ten minute drive away. Just the little things can make a difference; we got parked right outside (free parking), and there is a dedicated A&E for kids that is completely staffed by paediatric specialists. We were seen within ten minutes and the staff were brilliant. They gave William gas and air and opened up the wound. Unbeknownst to us, some of the tree had broken off and was stuck, so they needed to give it a right good clean out before they could even stitch it. William was so good, holding my hand and chatting to me whilst the staff worked on him. It looks like he's going to need a tetanus booster and they're recommending he also gets an MMR booster based on his NZ vaccines. Things are never simple, are they?!
You can't keep a good lad down though. This happened on Monday, and on he was at gymnastics as usual on Wednesday morning:
There was another thing that came down this week. We asked the owners of our house if they could arrange for a gardener to trim and cut back the olive tree and vines at the front of the house. Their wee trusted gardener came out on Thursday and worked his magic all day.
"after" photos to follow!LM. :)
