As I write this post very-retrospectively and look through all the photos to jog my memory, this time, and these school holidays feel like such a haze. With our IVF marathon coming to a heartbreaking conclusion right in the middle of the holidays, we were either waiting for news, or mopping up the mess of the news. In all, they were reasonably quiet times where we were just keeping our heads down and keeping William busy with an array of activities at home and around town. We've started exploring some of the walking paths along the river and it's lovely to feel almost like we're in the countryside, even though it's just 10mins walk from our house. It's great to tire William out too! William is getting more and more into colouring in, and his pencil work is really improving. Iain still doesn't have the Carte Grise, and I picked up my new specks. I love them, by the way.
The second week really was a different story. The weather did an almighty job of mimicking my mood: torrential, persistent rain. All day, every day. We went to Ikea (it wouldn't be school holidays without a trip there!) and got prepared for Hallowe'en. The city council called off the official "chasse aux bonbons" due to the weather but there was actually a break in the rain and most people went out with their kids anyway. And because I'm such a great mum, I booked us all in for a dentist appointment right in the middle of the activities. Classic.
That final weekend, the rain was, again, relentless. William and I collected leaves in the sodden chateau parc for a arts and crafts project and we were in full waterproofs, and on the Saturday we went to the gypsy fair that was in town. It was soggy soggerson but we managed an hour of drizzle rather than downpours. Eurgh. William loved it though!
