A Short Stint in Pau

Our trip to Le Col Vert was a good getaway but it wasn't that relaxing due, mainly, to us spending the week making some pretty huge life decisions and Iain subsequently spending the week negotiating out of his contract with the Club. When we got back to Pau he had some big meetings with the highheidyins, cleared his stuff out, and that was him. Done. Just like that. The reality of it all hasn't really kicked in yet but one thing I do know: this is the right decision for him and our family.

While Iain was sorting this all out, I, in typical fashion, was also very busy. My to-do list included various health appointments, the continuing fight to get a driving licence, and planning our next trip (to Scotland). In the midst of all this, two very french things also happened:

1. We both received our Carte du Séjour arrived. - WOW actual french residency!
and
2. Le Tour returned to Pau. As ever, the absolute circus came rolling through and we got ourselves swept up in it for a few hours. As it passed just one street away from our house, we even managed to see the “caravan” for the first time where the sponsors come through, whipping the crowds up into a bit a frenzy. William was absolutely delighted to get his hands on so many freebies.

As I mentioned, there’s been some more health things going on. Geoffrey is an absolute miracle worker and had me doing planks on a swiss ball this week. I couldn’t even manage that pre-injury!

I had my appointment at the hospital for my follow up gastroscopy. I now realise that the first one in NZ must’ve been under anaesthetic or some sort of heavy sedation because this time around was positively awful. A nurse was physically restraining me whilst the doctor stuck the camera down my throat and is was utter dry boke hell. She was happy with the results though (I got to discuss them immediately afterwards) and I’m just so pleased that my GP’s been so great at fully supporting all aspects of my health. I’m even getting referred for a bone density scan!

Finally, my planning has come to fruition and we’ve booked flights to Scotland for a five week trip. Iain desperately needs to decompress after the past few weeks (past 18months actually) and Scotland is the best place for that. So, we’re off.
Lorna.
