It really was back to reality for me as I started in my new job the week after returning from the South Island. As many of you will already know, I got the Head of Department post at an all girls boarding school in the country. Its very traditional; church every day and prayers before every meals, girls in dresses and blazers, hair "up", and not an touch of make up in sight. The roll is about 140 girls and its safe to say there is no need for a behaviour support unit in this place! Sadly, the "'gym" is the old school hall from the original boarding house so I've been spending as much time outdoors with my classes as the weather will permit, but building plans are in the pipeline and that's something I'm really looking forward to getting my teeth into. A plus side is that I actually have my own classroom. As you'll see from the photos below, it was looking a bit dated so I spent my first couple of days tearing down sun-bleached posters from the '80s and trying to inject some life into the place.
It's definitely a work in progress and to be honest, I'm looking for a whole new building before I'll be satisfied, but it'll do for now. Just in case your wondering, the first thing I did was ditch the old Overhead Projector that was hanging around at the back of the room. Eurgh. LM :)
