Regular readers will know all about our friends Clark and Karen who live here in New Plymouth. You can read about them here and here. Clark works at TRFU with Iain, but moonlights as one of the coaches for the NZ Sevens team. With tickets and accommodation all taken care of by the NZRU for the WAGs, Karen was really keen to go to head down to Wellington, but with Clark working at the tournament, she needed a wingwoman for the weekend who didn't mind a bit of rugby and beer. Look. No. Further.
For those of you unfamiliar with rugby 7s, it's generally a weekend of dressing up and drinking, but the Wellington tournament is probably the biggest of craziest of them all. The whole of the city is full of people in fancy dress and not a single person at the ground is dressed in regular clothes. What an atmosphere - people just talking to one another and taking photos of all the metal costumes. Karen and I got our hands on some pretty special, home-made (home-made gets far more street cred) "Incredibles" costumes. Trying them on in the comfort of our hotel room, we felt like total idiots, but as soon as we were in the thick of it on the streets, we just blended into the madness.
One of the best parts of the day was getting a chance to head into the changing rooms with Clark after the match - especially as they had won the tournament!
