We decided to head down to Taupo (Mum if you're reading this, remember it's pronounced "Tow" as in "Cow" - Po. Tow-po; Taupo. NOT Taipei which is in Taiwan). We sorted out accommodation when we arrived and found beds in a typical NZ Motel right on the front by the Lake. Mum thought that a Motel was a Motor-home (?!) so was actually pleasantly surprised that the pretty basic studio was actually in a building and not bunk-beds on four wheels! So anyway, by the time we got to Taupo, the weather had turned against us so we found some shelter in firstly, an Irish Pub, and secondly in an English pub. As ever we met a [drunk] Scottish guy who spent the rest of the evening blethering away to us, loving and hating Scotland in the same breath. Classic. We did indulge in some tourist stuff but it was Good Friday and a lot of places were closed for the holiday so it was a wander round the Taupo Rose Garden while the rain was off then a quick stop off at Hukka Falls on the way back to Auckland.

Taipei - brilliant Jinty, brilliant
And I love your line about the guy loving and hating scotland in the same breath, a common affliction amongst ex-pats.
Did you sing "i never promised you a rose garden"?
Bonus points from Keys at the Southern Cross quiz if you can name the band who had chart success with the hit song "I beg your pardon (I never promised you a rose garden"). And extra bonus points if you can tell me the year the song hit it's peak at number 5 in the UK chart and more bonus points (let me hear you say BONUS) if you name the country they came from.
