Today was a walk day for us and we were hoping that despite it being a holiday, there might be some food shops open to get much needed essentials like bread and eggs. Turns out, lots of places were open, and when I checked online, even Auchan would be open all day! So, we decided to grab a few things on our walk, and that I would go later to do our big shop. We went to Les Halles to buy food (and practice our french). We came away with two huge boeuf entrecôtes, a dozen eggs, and some cheese from two different counters. Always good to give things a go with the locals, and as Iain pointed out, its even better when they help you talk and make you feel reasonably comfortable rather than rolling their eyes at your ineptitude!
After lunch (BLTs) Iain had a load of work things to do so William and I pottered around upstairs, making a banana loaf (for Eva's birthday candle blow-out!) and checking all our supplies in the house for the shopping list.
In the late afternoon, even though I wasn't really feeling it, I went to Auchan to embark on the big shop. I also needed to get petrol so fitted that into the trip. I ended up feeling like I was away for ages. I probably was, but I think it was a combination of the petrol stop, the huge amount of shopping, and the fact I wasn't really feeling it, so was floating around a wee bit rather than shopping with real intent and purpose.
By the time I got home, the weekly Cleland cocktail party had kicked off and people were wishing Eva a happy birthday and enjoying the catch up. Iain had gotten the coals on and we had our own version of the Cafe du Passage Entrecôte. It was braw.
