CoronaVirus Lockdown Day 2

Bonjour! I'm going to try and write every day as I think its quite a cathartic process and I also feel it will be an interesting read in times to come once we're through this and looking back.

So, today. Well, not much to report from France. Our household has been quite active today. Iain and William did a workout after breakfast, and I spent the vast majority of the day pottering around in the garden/courtyard tidying up overgrown plants and repotting things. It's something I've been trying to get around to for a while and with it being such a glorious day outside, it was a perfect opportunity. I think that after returning from a typically manic couple of weeks in Scotland, I'm actually rather enjoying the chance to stay at home, enjoy some peace and quiet, and catch up on chores. William tends to spend quite a lot of time at home with me too so he's not totally climbing the walls quite yet. Iain is a different matter though. Spending this amount of time in and around the house is quite a challenge for him. I think he'll break tomorrow and go for a run. I don't think it's a good idea as I feel we should be aiming for quarantining rather than social distancing, but he wants out already. (To be honest, I think it's nosiness more than cabin fever so think he should stay put but that conversation will need to come tomorrow!)

I am trying to limit my news intake as it was starting to drive me a little crazy. I read last night, just before going to bed, that coeliacs have a 30% chance of having poor spleen function which affects your immune system. You can imagine my heart rate rapidly increasing as I went through each sentence, whilst also wondering if the cough I had was persistent, or not. The media is whipping people into a frenzy with their alarmist reporting and it's not good for our mental health. So I'm trying to switch off.
However, news from outside our camp that I do know from today is that:
1. If you're out and about in Pau, you might get stopped for papers. It's also important to carry photographic ID with you. I have no idea what the purpose of either documents is in fighting this virus.
2. The seriousness of things are starting to take hold in Scotland. Susie messaged me this morning to see if Jinty needed anything dropped off. It's amazing how people are really pulling together in the face of this. I spoke to Jinty and she is all sorted with Alan having dropped things on her doorstep and letting her pick them up rather than going in. Clare and Joe are getting Euan from school in line with recommendations that grandparents do not interact with children (super-spreaders!), and Jinty is fully social distancing. Any excuse to spend all night on the phone. As an at-risk-er, Gregor has been sent home from work and been told to social distance.
3. Scotland and Wales announced that schools will be closed as of Friday and this was followed up by Boris Johnson announcing that all English schools will close on Friday too. I have heard via some sources that they might be closed until after the summer but I doubt any government would want to confirm that at this stage.
4. I think Aussie is now looking at more social distancing measures and Iain spoke to Glenn Noble this morning and he said that NZ has cancelled all the rugby and people don't know what to do with themselves. The NZ government is telling Kiwis that if they want to come home, they need to do it now.
5. Livia messaged to say that the Portuguese President will speak tonight at 8pm. It looks like they're heading towards full lockdown just like Spain.
6. I don't know infection rates or death tolls and I don't want to.

Talk to you tomorrow.
Lorna.
