What on earth keeps me so busy every day that I cannot even find time to write a quick blog post? I vowed at the start of all this that I was going to write every day and here we are already, just at the start of week 2 and I'm missing posts. Must. Do. Better.
Tuesday 25th March - Day 9
By Tuesday I was really starting to get bored. I lay in bed in the morning knowing that it was better for me to get up and get into the day properly but to do what exactly? By the time I'd showered and got clothes on etc it was almost midday. It's not a good spiral to get into; getting up really late and going to bed even later. I knew I needed to knock it on the head. The most productive aspect of my day was doing some more english phonics work with William. I've tried hard not to push any of this on him. He seems eager to learn words as he's always asking what things say so I'm letting him lead the pace. Today he just asked if he could do some homework so we got into it. Today we learned the sounds for 'p' and 'n' (we'd already done s, a, t, and i) and worked for about 30mins in total. More than enough for all concerned.
Thursday 26th March - Day 10
After the low levels of motivation on Wednesday, I vowed to myself that I would be more productive on Thursday. It wasn't massively earlier but I was in the shower by 10.30am which is an improvement. I got our bed stripped, bedrooms vacuumed and dusted and fresh bedding back on all before lunch. Much better! Had sandwiches for lunch but we were becoming acutely aware that supplies were running low. The cupboards were okay, but there was a serious lack of fresh produce. It meant one thing: one of us was going to have to go to the shops again. Iain was quite happy to head round to Monoprix again but I was of the mind that if we could do one big shop, it would cut out the need for multiple trips and thus coming into contact with more people. I knew I was the best person for the job. I know Auchan the best, I know what we need as a family and I do this every week albeit on a smaller scale. Reluctantly, I was going in. After a bit of research, I figured that the best time to visit would be about 5pm. Fish reckoned it was quiet at this time which I figured was the big positive but I was concerned that there wouldn't be much on the shelves by this point in the day. It's a tricky balancing act. I wrote out my attestation, grabbed my passport, a pair of disposable gloves and a bottle of hand sanitiser and got in my car.
It was my first trip out of our courtyard since before lockdown began. A full ten days. First impressions were that the streets were way busier than I expected them to be. There were quite a number of people walking between our house and Place Clemenceau and a few out and about at Place Royale. But once I got up onto Trespoey Avenue and on towards Bizanos, the streets were pretty much deserted. I got to Auchan and I was pleased to see that the the car park was empty. I got my gloves on and headed to the trolley park. They'd set up a system where used trollies were left in one shelter to be disinfected then, once cleaned, were moved to a different shelter. It's amazing how things have changed since I last went. I headed in and was delighted to find the place really quiet and, all things considered, very well stocked. After the madness of the last two weeks where everyone has been panic buying things like bog roll, pasta and rice, most of it is now available.
I spent about 90mins in total in the shop, carefully avoiding contact with any of the other customers. It's a funny wee dance that everyone seems to have adopted; a kind of knowing nod involving the widest of berths you can imagine. My haul was enormous. Probably the biggest food shop Ive ever done in my life. Hopefully it will see us through another two weeks. I was absolutely delighted to get home last night and I thoroughly enjoyed that first glass of wine! Go me.
Iain had already fed William by the time I got home so Iain and I had celebratory pizza together later on. Cheers (indeed!),Lorna.
