In spite of this odd existence, there is still a certain joy when you reach Friday. It's another week done, and once the weekend passes, you'll have conquered another full week. This weekend has been tinged with sadness as Susie, Nic and Livia were meant to be coming for a visit, and Nic, Livia and I had been planning this for months. I'd been nervous that they wouldn't get great weather as April can be quite hit or miss and the final irony of the whole episode is that the weather today, and for the rest of the weekend is glorious. We're going to have a group video chat on Saturday in lieu of the missed trip.
So back to the mundane. Fresh supplies like milk, eggs, fruit and veg were running low but our biggest issue was the inability to get our hands on decent tea bags. When you're stuck at home, a lot of tea gets drunk. And this becomes a problem if the only tea you can come by is average. I decided it was time to take one for the team and go to Leclerc, where they sell Tetley Corsé, the only decent tea you can get here unless you manage to get PG Tips or Yorkshire Tea from the World Food isle (highly unlikely in this climate). Based on last week's Auchan trip, I decided to wait until late in the day to miss the crowds. But it felt like the crowds had decided to wait until late in the day to miss me. Here's the queue to get in at 17.15h. Notice the excellent attention to social distancing, as well as my Michael Jackson gloves.
The shop was actually rather busy but people were generally adhering to distancing guidelines and not pushing past. I got a fairly decent haul considering this was just a "wee shop" but I did come home with 160 Tetley tea bags plus a box of Yorkshire Tea! Winner winner!
By the time I got home it was almost time for our weekly online cocktail party with the Clelands. It is certainly becoming a real anchor point in the week and a great chance to catch up with everyone. As ever, the alcohol was flowing here and long after we hung up on the last ones to leave (Tatie and Woodsie), we were having a sports themed record session in the kitchen. We even got the Rocky IV montages on the go, motivating Iain to try a few crossovers and double unders in his open backed slippers at midnight.
Christ.
