CoronaVirus Lockdown Day 26 - Sat 11 April

Started the day with the the usual breakfast and chores. I stripped Williams bed with the intention of changing his duvet to a summer weight. He's been waking quite a bit in the last week, sweating and crying and talking about bad dreams and this seems to come on more when he gets too hot. We'll see how this goes.

In the morning, Iain went for a run and took william out with him on his bike. He said it was really good to be out, and that William did well going up hills on his own on his bike.

For lunch we had leftover salmon pasta and some mixer/matcher salad things. After lunch William and I worked on more of the Cold War Steve project to the point that the background scene is now complete. I had to make some some big changes as I'd got the perspectives on the lights all wrong. I'm probably investing way more time and effort in this than I should be for what is essentially a kid's project, but I can't help myself, plus it's actually giving me something to do in the day.

Iain went to Monoprix in the late afternoon. He was pleased with the trip. He said it was very quiet, and he managed to collect in a decent haul which we hope will tide us over to the middle of next week then it will be Auchan again.

He got home just in time before the heavens opened. It was absolutely hosing down. I've not seen rain like it for months and months but like I said yesterday, much needed. In lieu of this weather, the three of us hunkered down on the couch and watched Hop, the Easter movie which the Tito kids have talked about watching with William since last summer. Sometimes I can't believe that this is all happening, and that Hayley, Libby and Ollie are back in NZ. I really miss them. And so does William.

We've been living in SW France for almost three years. God knows where the time has gone. This part of France particularly loves duck so today (with a lot of time on my hands to play in the kitchen) I finally had a go at making a typical dish from our region: parmentier du canard. It's essentially duck cottage pie and I pretty much made it up as I went along. I slow braised the meat in an onion, garlic and red wine gravy for three hours. I then broke it all up using a fork and load it on the bottom of a pie dish which I topped, firstly with kumara (sweet potato for the non-kiwis!), then regular potato, then breadcrumbs. It. Was. Brilliant.

Once William went to bed, Iain and I watched two, yes two movies - Judy and What Happened Miss Simone? Oh, and drank three bottles of red wine. Classy.

Cheers,

Lorna ;-)
