CoronaVirus Lockdown Day 33 - Sat 18 April

Iain and William were up well before 9am this morning but I didn't surface until almost 10am. Eeek! Well, it is Saturday. A usual round of activity for the morning; the boys watching repair shop videos and playing lego; me tidying bedrooms, making beds and getting the laundry on.

This past week I've been feeling unhappy about my current health and fitness. I miss going to the pool and feel all the gains I'd made at the start of the year are now but a distant memory. My big toe injury which plagued me for months is far better than before but still not completely healed meaning that a lot of the circuits / Joe Wicks exercises are just not possible yet. Combine this with a lot of drinking and eating due to boredom and you end up with someone who isn't just feeling overweight and unhealthy, but someone who is putting on weight and is unhealthy. I've really cut down on the booze this week, having only had one celebratory GnT on Thursday after my big shopping trip and even drinking tea at the family Zoom cocktail party last night. Today, it was time to address the physical aspect so I put on my trainers and went for a short run around the city. I managed just over 2km which I think was decent given it's the first time I've ran in well over a year. I've never liked running, and never been very good at it, and since having William, my body just can't cope with it like it used to (it didn't cope particularly well beforehand). But I was out, and I did it, and my God, how much better I've felt for it. This was also my first time out of the courtyard (apart from three supermarket trips) since the start of lockdown so think that it was also just really good for my mental health to get out in the open and see the Pyrenees and feel (slightly) free. Iain and William came along for the ride too and I reckon it was great for all of us. A new regime is on the cards, methinks, but I don't reckon I'll be leaving lockdown 10kgs lighter or anything like that!

Lunch was a tuna salad with capers, dill croutons and a balsamic dressing. It was primarily Iain's doing, but I was responsible for the (signature) homemade croutons, plating up and making it all look professional. It was brilliant. Iain keeps telling me to get things onto the food blog so he can retire.
After lunch, William did some more painting which kept him entertained for about 45mins. After this he had a bit of a downward wobble, clearly very bored and needing adult intervention to keep him going with things. That's become one of the hardest bits of lockdown; William needing more and more help to play. Normally, when he comes home from school, he's had so much stimulation that he's quite happy pottering around on his own for a while but we're very much in the opposite situation now. Anyway, we spent some more time in the garden playing football, and then Iain brought afternoon tea and scones out. Perfect.
Chateau Parc (note the attention to detail with the square trees)
We decided to risk a BBQ despite the forecast looking a bit dicey. Given the forecast for the rest of the week, this looks like the only time we'll be lighting the coals in the next 10 days! Iain and I had steak, salad and gnocchi, and William had pizza and watched Ninja Warrior. It's amazing how much your viewing habits change when you have kids. I'd never have previously watched this show, or shows like it (The Masked Singer, for example), but the fact it's real people rather than cartoons, and that its not some smiling perfect kids show where you want to slap the protagonists into the real world means that I actually do not mind it being on one bit. I did, however, get some decent tv of my own after William went to bed. It's been on my mind for a while so I suggested to Iain that we watch Rocky. I'd never seen it before - just actually check that it was on my old list, here, and it was! I'm invested now and I'm ready for II, III and IV (again - because who hasn't seen Rocky IV?!)
