A good, active start to our week with a 7km walk this morning. Rather than doubling back on ourselves a few times in the old town, we went for a much wider arc, and it was good to take in a few different sights from normal. We saw swans in Parc Beaumont, lots of spring flowers of which William wanted me to take lots of photos, and we even found the prison. We didn't even know there was a prison in Pau town centre! With lockdown measures still very much in place for another two weeks, the kids playgrounds are all still closed off. It's going to be so strange having all these places to go back to once the restrictions are lifted.
For lunch we had my much loved pea, ham and cauliflower soup. It was great to be able to just pull a bag of this out of the freezer, et voila!, 15mins later, a healthy yet hearty lunch for a soaky wet day. Iain had lots of work things on in the afternoon so I prepared myself for lots of entertaining William. He was really keen to do painting so I got him all set up in the kitchen. He did one picture, and started another, and suddenly the wheels came off and he was crying his eyes out, telling me he was just so sleepy. I gave him big cuddles and calmed him down, and got him snuggled on the couch while I tidied up the painting stuff. I went to check on him and he was out for the count! Absolute madness, and absolute cuteness overload. He's not napped in the afternoon for over a year now so this was indeed a much loved throwback to all those joyous afternoons when the house would be peaceful, and I would potter around quietly, hoping not to wake him. However, the experienced mum in me was watching the clock, knowing that if he slept too long, tonight would be a battle. I woke him just after 5pm and he was all drowsy and sweaty like when he was a baby. It really was the best.
I made dinner tonight - mince and totties and everyone wolfed theirs down. Iain did the bath, jammies, story, bed with William and we were both aware this might be a battle due to the nap, but no! he's actually gone to sleep. He must've been absolutely shattered from that cycle today. 7km is a decent stint for wee legs though. It's good for him. Right, I'm away to have a cup of tea and watch some mind numbing tv. Run day tomorrow and I'm aiming to hit 4.5km. Eeek!
Lorna.
