I spoke too soon about William heading off to bed last night. As soon as Iain came upstairs, and I finished tapping away on my laptop, and the two of us started making a bit of noise with the kettle, and chatting, and putting the tv on, William appeared on the stairs. There was no point forcing him back to bed; he just wasn't ready to sleep. Instead the three of us snuggled down in front of the tele and watched, of all things, Grayson Perry's Art Club. (I won't bore you with the details of the show, but it was surprisingly warm, funny and really interesting). William didn't end up going to bed until after 10pm. Bloody afternoon naps!
Anyway, on to today and my big milestone run. It was 5k today, and although I wasn't absolutely dreading it, I really just wanted to get out there and complete it. But I needed to wait on Iain finishing circuits with the boys, then talking to Joffre and Rox. Arrrgh. Anyway, we headed out and I'd planned a rough route, down through Grammont, either up to Verdun or down to Hédas, round Les Halles, then heading out of town to Parc Beaumont, onto the Boulevard towards the chateau. I figured it would be around 5-ish, and if not, we could easily add a few blocks before heading home. No need. We hit the 5km mark right at the top of the climb to the chateau. I was absolutely stoked. And I even had enough left in the tank to guts out the home stretch and complete 5.3k! I am absolutely delighted with my effort and achievement. I'd knocked out a few 5kms and the odd 6km-er pre-William days, but I didn't run at all during my pregnancy, and since I had William (almost five years ago) the furthest I'd managed was 3km. Today feels like a real turning point. Until two weeks ago, I always said that my body just couldn't cope with any running since I'd had a baby. Today proves that actually, a lot of that was really just in my head. I'm not resting on my laurels though and I've talked with Iain about what I should be aiming for next in order to keep my motivation high. I'd like to be able to complete a 5k in under 30mins, but I'd also like to conquer longer distances. The fact I'm even considering different options shows how far I've come in just eleven, yes eleven(!) days.
By the time we got home, stretched, showered and Iain went to Monoprix, we ended up having lunch quite late and this kinda knocked on for the rest of the afternoon which disappeared in a blur. A real highlight, however, was William having a FaceTime with his wee pal Arthur. It's really good for them to get some time just chatting about what they're interested in so Jess and I let them blether away for as long as they wanted. They did some colouring in together, and showed each other their toys, and generally talked about the things little four year old boys like. It was the cutest thing ever.
While they were chatting, the French Prime Minister addressed parliament about how France intends to ease lockdown. It's looking more and more like the 11th May will see lots of change, including schools opening, but everything will be reviewed by the 8th June to prevent a second spike of cases. It's crazy to think that William could be going back to school in just under two weeks. He did also say that this will all depend on geography; one department may have experienced higher cases, so will require tighter measures for longer; other departments with low cases can open up sooner. I reckon we will be in the green grouping, meaning a quicker de-confinement but we are waiting on more information from the powers that be.
Iain made dinner tonight and did particularly well with roasted chicken dippers in breadcrumbs. My new garlic and chives dip was a very good pairing, and I also enjoyed a 5k celebratory cider. Cheers!
Lorna :-)
